Famed for its rugged coastline, lovely beaches, forests and wild moorland as much as for its ancient castles and charming little towns, this corner of South West Scotland provides a delightful backdrop to our holiday lodges in Kirkcudbrightshire. The inviting coastal village of Creetown is perhaps best known for its country music festival and as the setting for the cult film, The Wicker Man (there’s a 12 ft high model of him among many other fascinating exhibits in the Creetown Heritage Museum). And there’s a magical thrill in visiting a castle you can only by reach by boat. Threave Castle sits on a small island in the River Dee, and in another part of this great estate, Threave Gardens should please keen gardeners - both are easily accessible from our holiday lodges in Kirkcudbrightshire.

We found the holiday lodges to be excellent value for money and loved the location. The lodge was very clean and had everything required for a comfortable stay. The only downsides to our stay was the poor signage for arrival in the dark (granite blocks which are engraved, but did not stand out in the dark). The reception was dark when we arrived at 5h15pm and when phoning to ask what we were supposed to do, the answer machine kicked in, so we were left not knowing what to do. We will visit again, but this time we know where we have to turn and also know what to expect when we reach the accommodation.

Castle Douglas is particularly suitable for sightseeing and for relaxation. The location is very quiet and peaceful with lots of space between each lodge giving plenty of privacy. The owner was very pleasant and helpful as were the rest of the staff.

Near enough to the nearby towns of Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and the surrounding area, but far enough in to the countryside for a peaceful holiday.
